from Max
Hi everyone from sunny California:
We are doing well. Still plugging along on the construction of everything. We get a bit down every once and a while, wondering if it will ever end. There are so many things we would rather be concentrating on. But we have a place to live and get paid so . . .
We take the little power boat out every Friday which is our joint day off. A couple times up the Napa River, once to Sam's in Tiburon and some times just cruising around our end of the Sacramento River. Just up the river about 20 minutes is what the call the 'Moth Ball Fleet'. I think there is really an official name like 'Emergency Reactivation Fleet', or something like that. But everyone calls it the Moth Ball Fleet. It is where war ships go when they are out of service. There are over 100 of them tide up side by side in groups of 10-15. Apparently, if needed to go into service they could be ready within 3-5 days. Some work is done on them but mostly they just sit waiting for the day they may be needed again. The 'Ole Miss' (Missouri) is there, which is where the treaty with Japan was signed to end WWII.
We went to some dinner at some old friends the other night. We knew 2 of the couples from years ago so it was great to catch up. They had invited a 3rd couple because they were sailors and thought we would get along. It's always a small world. The younger lady had lived in SLC for 8 years and her brother and mother live there still. Her mother teaches English part time at Westminster for the past 8 years. Her name (the mom) is Jane Cheney (no relation to Dick). Just wondering if Charley & Lynne have maybe met her. Never know!
Take care, ya'all.
Love,
Max
