HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi everyone-
It's the start of a new year and I get energized with the possibilities of the year. I try not to focus on what will be ongoing challenges/stresses of life- busyness and balancing everything- but to appreciate everything I have in my life- family, friends, opportunities.
Ellie, you've talked many times with me about your job, the choir and the challenges, stresses of it. But look at the great music and opportunities that have come out of it for you and your boys. I am realizing that there is usually a lot of effort that has to be put into what will feel later like a great accomplishment and/or success. I have really enjoyed the CDs that you've sent. In fact, I had been listening to the latest one on my bedroom CD player which is also our alarm- while I was unpacking from our trip over the weekend. Well, this morning my alarm went off for our first morning back to school and it started playing the CD for my alarm! A pleasant, spiritual awakening (Duane was already up- so he didn't get that spiritual start).
In all of my 42years of wisdom (haha)- I am realizing that one has to have a zest and drive to enjoy something in each day, to feel satisfaction in each day, to have goals in each day. We are all faced with challenges that are different for each of us- but I think it is up to each individual to find one's own zest and drive to do something each day that is positive. While I believe we have to "be realistic", "responsible", "sensible" and plan for the future in what we do- I believe I try to temper that a little with "just going for it". Why not? LIFE IS NOT A DRESS REHEARSAL (one of Duane's favorite sayings). Of course, I am always thinking of the future, planning and considering the future- but I also don't want to be so caught up in always looking to the future that I forget to enjoy the present- because that soon becomes the past- and then it's gone.
Dad, I like your thoughts about blogging more. I try to check in as much as possible on the blog and/or talking directly with everyone. I am glad that we can use the blog as another way to know what's going on with each other. I appreciate everyone's updates and thoughts on various things. (But by the way- I don't think I heard from many family members regarding my topic on family...). I hope we can put things out there to talk about- there's no time like the present, right?
Well, those are my thoughts for the New Year. For the year, I hope for more connections with all of you and more talking (surprise!). I hope for everyone to find their zest each day.
Love, Kay
