Max and Whitey update
I thought I would give our 2007 update. No - I have not lost tons of weight but I have maintained going to Curves 3-4 times a week even in the frost and cold at 6:30 a.m. Feel better if nothing else.
The potential buyer for the marina is moving ahead. Still waiting for the final closing date but probably in March sometime. Whitey and I met with the new owner a couple times. He's a young energetic guy. Has storage units and small shopping complexes but knows nothing about marinas. So he is very much wanting us to be around for a while. He was blown away by the $50,000 request to stay on. But after we had got to know each other we discussed it and came up with a $30,000 incentive. This will keep us here until end of September. We're happy with the arrangement. He's got lots of ideas which will keep our enthusiasm up until September.
In the mean time we are looking seriously for the boat we want. We will charter the same type of boat in the BVI's in 26 days (counting the days). We're hoping to get the boat we purchase up to Glen Cove so we can work on it until October and then sail down to Mexico. We're planning on staying for probably 18 months there before heading for the South Pacific. So plenty of time for everyone to come visit. :)
Oh yeah - we are frantically trying to finish the lighthouse (well Whitey and gang are) so we can move in. We have to move in before we leave for the BVI's. So at least we can enjoy that residence for a few months.
And Whitey will go to Puerto Rico in April for the World Projects musical tour as a Tour Manager. If this works out they will keep us working next year from March until May, flying us from Mexico to wherever the tour is. (and we'll get paid).
So that's our update until now. Hope everyone is having a great year and not too cold. It's so great to have some goals to move towards and feel things happening.
Love ya,
Max

The Ice Phenomenon
Well I think Marissa and her friends have started something that will soon spread around the world. Those who were in Utah over Christmas may remember that she had a friend who instead of high five would slide the hand down and say 'ICE'. Then if you are really in the mood you would proceed to Precipitation - etc. etc. It's a bit of a visual thing so feel free to contact her via the web cam if you need a demonstration.
Well we have this group of Aussie's that we have become friends with here. (Which is another story since they are mostly in their 20's with a couple 33 but they have adopted us and we enjoy their company). We did the 'ICE" thing over dinner a couple weeks ago and it has totally caught on now. We do it all the time when we see them and laugh of course afterwards since it is so corny. And now at the end of an email they put 'ICE".
So there you go Marisa. You have started an international trend.

she's driving on public streets!
Guess what?! Megan just got her learner's permit! I took her for the written test at the DMV last Tuesday. I really hadn't been giving it all too much thought- I actually thought she might not even pass the exam because I hadn't really seen her studying for it. But she passed- and I had the strangest feeling of "No way, it can't be happening!" I had a little anxiety attack (called the insurance company) and expressed to her how I don't see how she could possibly be prepared to be driving! She hasn't had any driver's education classes-it seems very backwards. But now the law is that they can get a permit anytime after their 15th birthday- take the actual course just before they turn 16 and then pass the final driving test. So, here we are riding alongside her in the passenger seat as she drives (we're just doing quiet back streets right now). It is a very strange experience! She is beaming to say the least!
We started our 6th year of coordinating the ski/snowboard program at Cosgriff yesterday. We have 78 students! We had to get two buses, more chaperones- makes for lots more fun. We will be going up for 6 Fridays with one as an all-day (no school that day). We enjoy it still- it's such a fun way to spend Friday afternoons. We are also continuing our traditional apres ski dinners with about 4-5 families- we love the whole event! Marisa is glad we're doing it still- I guess we'll do it one more year after this- and then pass it on to another family to coordinate.
We are back into she swing of things after the holidays. I am trying to assume my new role as the sole counselor at Cosgriff. I have kind of slid in through the back door- and was asked to continue after the main counselor quit in December. I was obviously a choice of convenience- but I am hoping to show that I should be a solid choice to continue as the counselor- and maybe with a few more hours. I have acquired an office! This is kind of a big deal to me because I have not had any kind of identified, real office space since I have been at Cosgriff (6 years). I've just kind of floated around. I can't quite feel ownership yet- I'm a little bit worried that the Principal might tell me that the office is going to used for something else. My big challenge is to show the Principal and faculty that I am more than an Aide- and be seen as a professional. I feel very confident at this point that I am a "counselor"- I just want everyone else to see it.
Marisa is full into her science fair project. She has collected her data- saliva from 10 dogs and 10 humans and swabbed them into petrie dishes- sitting in our dining room. They are growing lots of bacteria- very interesting!
Duane skiied in his first skate ski race last Saturday. He wants to continue racing and improve.
Duane and Sandy went hunting pheasants on Sunday with a friend. Sandy caught herself in a barbed wire fence- her ear got wrapped around a barb. Duane couldn't free it and while he was trying to help her- she ripped away- and left part of her ear! She now has a jagged ear with no tip. Very sad. She also suffered a deep gash on her chest. Fortunately the friend with them is a Doctor- and he was able to stitch up her chest and clean her ear well. She's a trooper.
Ellie- your New Year's hats look so great- what a fun tradition!
Love, Kay

New Year's tradition

Every New Year's Eve, we create paper hats and march around the house with horns and clackers. We do count down whenever mommy is tired. We never make it to midnight. This year we made it to 10:00pm, late for us. The hats are a big deal. We show them off to neighbors and friends.
Happy New Year to you all.
We love you,
Ellie, George, Davis, James

Happy New Year to everyone

Well, the holidays are over, we've cleaned up Christmas at our house (except for the nativity until ephiphany)- it looks so bare! It was fun to have Max/Whitey, Larry stay here and dinners, activities of Jazz game, skiing in PC, Millcreek "refrigerator canyon" rescue, going to Wanship, visiting with family on the webcam, etc.
Happy New Year to everyone!
Love, Kay, Duane, Marisa, Megan.
