No Sasquatch

Doesn't this remind you of Uncle Larry?

I don't like to call people gullible, but what about these Sasquatch believers ("Is Big Foot a tall tale?" Tribune, July 21). They pay the organizer of the Big Foot Research Organization, Matt Moneymaker, $350 for entry into a club that believes in the existence of Big Foot, an elusive, foul-smelling, monstrous, hairy biped who lives in the various forests of North America. They are in our Uinta Mountains searching for the critters with night-vision goggles. Sane people have to ask, where is the evidence of Big Foot's existence? Where are the photos? Where is there a carcass of a dead one? Where are any skeletal remains? True, there is the short, grainy, out-of-focus film of "something" walking across a meadow, but most likely it is a human in a gorilla suit. People, it is time to face reality. There is no Big Foot, no Sasquatch. What the eyewitnesses have actually seen are Wookies, the descendants of the mighty Chewbacca in the "Star Wars" movies. Michael P. Greer Sandy

Address Book

You may be wondering why this AOL Address Book is posted on the blog.
I was able to retrieve Mom and Dad's AOL address book- but as I tried to print it- it would not give me an option to print. It kept referring me to the File Menu- but there was no File Menu in the tool bar. AOL is very tricky- trying to keep you hooked in. As I searched and tried different ways to get this printed- it did give me the options of sending it to Gmail or Blogger. So, I sent it to Blogger and the Blue Nettles account. Here it is- I've now printed the Address Book for Mom. Now, there are the saved mails all the way back from 2004... Mom can look at them and decide if they should printed- or let them all go away in AOL land.

Washington Post Critisizes Me for Working Late

See the WashPo article criticizing my office's work - or more accurately, echoing the people in State and USAID who have had their rice bowls broken. Fun bureuacratic battles. The final sentence I take personal, since I'm the poor bastard who is working late to get this stuff in some coherent state and all "undertaken behind closed doors under cover of darkness at Foggy Bottom."

In other news, it has been a fairly mild summer here. But they've still not added staff at work and my boss has been on leave for the last three weeks, so I haven't enjoyed much of it.

After seeing these commercials: here and here, I've been eating a lot more lamb lately. I like it with mango chutney. Don't be un-Australian.

Max, I was going to look into that eye stuff this fall, maybe a little sooner. If it works for you, it might help mine also. I had to give up on contacts three years ago and glasses work well but are irritating.

THE EYES HAVE IT!

Hi everyone:

Sorry about my last post. I think it went wobbly when I posted the pictures.

Well I have my 2nd eye surgery done on Wednesday. The first one was done 2 weeks ago. And guess what? I have 20/30 and 20/40 vision with no glasses or contacts. I could pass the driving test now! I am thrilled. For those of you who haven't heard, I had lens replacement surgery. It was an elective surgery to help me have better vision. I have become increasingly frustrated the past couple years. Contact lenses don't correct my vision correctly and then became painful to wear (after 20 years of wearing them). So I have been wearing glasses for the past 6 months ++ and they don't correct my vision well either. The surgery has not corrected my astigmatism so I will need something for that but the rest is better than my corrected vision had been for a long time. The surgery is the same as cataract surgery so I won't have to worry about that in the future. (And it is the same as Gwen had!)

And what else is new with Max & Whitey? We had a nice time with Mom here. I think she is doing great. Trying to focus on her health and the future.

We are busy working on our boat, 'Gypsy Blue'. There is lots to do but we can still go out sailing when we want. Our plans have changed a bit. We have decided to stay on another year. The money and the chance to fulfill the wish list for the boat while we are still making good money. The new owner of the marina is thrilled. We will stay working full time with the marina until March. At that time we will be moved on the boat and start doing the tour management jobs with the travel company World Projects. We will also work contractually for the marina as well until October when we will head south to Mexico. By the way, World Projects is not a management company for an Australian rock band. You can find them on http://www.world.projects.com/ They are based here in Vallejo, and organize/coordinate trips for high school and college musical groups. Whitey was tour manager for a group from California to Puerto Rico in April. They are very busy from March till July each year so we will be busy each year doing this. They will fly us from wherever we are with the boat each year. Not a bad gig. Kay and gang thought Whitey was going to be a manager of a rock band, Cat Empire, from Australia. While it is a very cool band (check them out on YouTube) that would be way beyond us.

Anyway, that is our life this summer. Working and trying to get some sailing in while we can.

Hope you all are well.
Love,
Max
