Dad, other family facts: Moved to Park City in 2003 and then to Wanship 2006. Lynne's Degreed are B.S. English and B.S. Theater Arts.
Catch-Up
Time to catch-up with the news and gossip.
The Visit: Look forward to the visit from Max and Whitey. Don't know about school breaks. We'll accommodate as best we can.
Family CD: Looks good Dad except Lynne was born in Salt Lake. Only lived in Price during her High School years.
Family Dynamics: Thought I would chime in on the subject. Everyone seems to agree we were 'close' growing up. I submit that view is (partially) a result of five kids stacked in the back of a station wagon driving across the Wyoming plains in August. We certainly spent a great deal of time together as children but our differences - in friends, interests, personalities, politics, etc. - showed up early. We are unique and that, of course, is as it should be.
Dynamics are one thing. Given differences and likenesses and 40 (or more) years of history, they are what they are at any given time. Changes in these dynamics are likely to occur organically. They may change because of proximity, the birth of children, death of parents (or any one of us) or a number of other life events.
Historically, families may have been much more interdependent; sharing the same cave and hunting for the benefit of all, farming together and then dividing the farm up after the folks are gone. Of course, there was always somebody in the family who would strike out for the frontier or some other opportunity and looking for experiences they couldn't find in the family cave. This is what happens at great regularity today. This happened to all of us, to one degree or another. Anyone left in Brigham or planning to return?
Mom made a comment once (and I'm paraphrasing) that families tend to operate and interact based on history and may not be as able to understand the significant changes and growth we experience outside of the family dynamic - which of course changes the dynamic.
We choose our friends and they choose us. We don't choose our families (or our in-laws). It may be that we, as siblings, would never have chosen to be friends. I think it highly unlikely, actually. But here we are. Sharing the same DNA and stuck with each other. I can live with that.
I think that we, as siblings, are at a time of life that requires a great deal of our attention and energy to be focused on our own families, careers, communities and interests. I suspect that later when the demands of our daily lives change we'll communicate more with each other.
Politics: I'm disgusted and saddened. At times I feel on the verge of existential despair.
Wanship: I may not spend the rest of my life here - but I just might. Every day is beautiful and quiet and spacious. Wildlife is abundant. Fishing is down the road. The country is full of friendly people. Today we watched the Bald Eagles, that nest down at the river, descend on a small deer carcass that died from the winter a couple hundred feet from our front room windows. Magnificent birds! Made me hungry for venison. Drop by if you're ever in the neighborhood.
Love, Charley

The Marlar/Ellie piece of the Blue Family CD looks good. Thank you, Dad, for keeping us all documented. Do you think one of the grandkids will pick it up?

Traffic
Agh! George had an accident on the freeway on the way home from work. He is ok and it is not his fault! Our little truck does not look so well. The bed of the truck was pushed up into the cab. It broke the latches on the side windows. The back bumper was bent under. You can't see the license plate. We have a sprayed in liner in the bed that is now cracked. The insurance estimate is much lower than the two estimates that George got. It is now at the body shop of our choice and George will be picking up a rental car. The insurance company will deal with the body shop to cover all repairs over the estimate. The kid behind George caused the accident and two other cars were involved. Two of the drivers got tickets for driving too fast for conditions (freeway traffic was slowing). The kid was in a company truck (F250). I think he lost his job.
This is the third accident (not his fault) that George has been involved in the last five years going to or from work downtown. The truck is almost paid off and we had planned to keep it for many, many years. It is frustrating to deal with the mess. I am scared that George is pushing his luck. Maybe he should work from home more often.
That is our week!
Love,
Ellie

Coming to Utah
Hi Dad, Mom, etc:
Finally, we have it settled for our dates to come visit.
Drive Friday, March 10 straight through. Should get there early evening.
Depart afternoon of the 14th or maybe early a.m. the 15th.
It will be a quick one but great to see everyone. We will drive the truck so can get the furniture. Maybe we will be in the lighthouse by then to store the furniture away. Hmmmm!
Will talk to you all soon.
Love,
Max

funny & serious
That was very funny Dad. Now you know how I felt in Aus-land.
On a more serious note - there is a very good short Documentary on Anti-Smoking that was done by a lady with lung cancer but from her childrens view point. I think EVERYONE should go on line and see it but especially all of the kids!!!!!!!!!! It takes about 25 minutes but is worth it. It's on the Good Morning America web site

The Blog
Hi everyone:
I agree with Dad. I love the blog but I think everyone should contribute to it at least once a month. Even if it is to say (1) life is incredibly busy right now but I'm alive and (2) I have not forgotten my loving family. :)
For us the first year started out fun. We had neice, Michelle and her boyfriend Rob, came through here for 4 days. It was great to have them here. Whitey has always spoke of her as 'his favourite' but I always thought she was a bit of a brat. So it was nice to see she has matured and become a very nice adult. Her 5 year relationship with Rob, I believe has helped. We did what we could to enjoy ourselves, in spite of the constant rain.
Now I can sit in the office and see tons of trees and plants floating down the river. Huge logs float into the marina and Whitey has to tow them out. Yesterday a 15 foot diameter 'island' came in. It's sort of humorous.
Charley & kay - let me know when the kids spring break will be. I need to schedule when we are coming in March. If I can schedule it a bit around your breaks then I will.
Love you all,
Max

George Goes to School
Hello Family,
It's that time again! Back to school. I've successfully completed Economics 112 during the Fall 2005 semester. This completes both required Economics courses. They tell me I have a 4.00 GPA. Not that it matters in the real world, I'm just happy I passed. I am pleased with the knowledge that I can understand the Business section of the newspaper now.
Continuing my education, I've registered for Accounting 111 for the Spring 2006 semester. I have purchased my books (thick as a telephone book!)and begin classes on 01-18 at 6:00 pm. I am looking forward to learning and expanding my knowledge. Wish me luck.
That's all for now. I love ya'll.

Happy New year
Happy New Year everyone!
Here are some pictures of our lighthouse. Whitey worked so hard on the Christmas lights that we have decided to keep them up all year round. The neighbors love them. And the other is from this mornings sunrise. A neighbor up the hill (whom I've never met) called me to say she had taken this picture from her house and wanted to forward it to us. Isn't this gorgeous? After days and days of torential rains this is what we get. (Glad you can't see the mess of logs and debre in the water).
Hope all are happy, safe and healthy.
Love Max

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hi everyone-
It's the start of a new year and I get energized with the possibilities of the year. I try not to focus on what will be ongoing challenges/stresses of life- busyness and balancing everything- but to appreciate everything I have in my life- family, friends, opportunities.
Ellie, you've talked many times with me about your job, the choir and the challenges, stresses of it. But look at the great music and opportunities that have come out of it for you and your boys. I am realizing that there is usually a lot of effort that has to be put into what will feel later like a great accomplishment and/or success. I have really enjoyed the CDs that you've sent. In fact, I had been listening to the latest one on my bedroom CD player which is also our alarm- while I was unpacking from our trip over the weekend. Well, this morning my alarm went off for our first morning back to school and it started playing the CD for my alarm! A pleasant, spiritual awakening (Duane was already up- so he didn't get that spiritual start).
In all of my 42years of wisdom (haha)- I am realizing that one has to have a zest and drive to enjoy something in each day, to feel satisfaction in each day, to have goals in each day. We are all faced with challenges that are different for each of us- but I think it is up to each individual to find one's own zest and drive to do something each day that is positive. While I believe we have to "be realistic", "responsible", "sensible" and plan for the future in what we do- I believe I try to temper that a little with "just going for it". Why not? LIFE IS NOT A DRESS REHEARSAL (one of Duane's favorite sayings). Of course, I am always thinking of the future, planning and considering the future- but I also don't want to be so caught up in always looking to the future that I forget to enjoy the present- because that soon becomes the past- and then it's gone.
Dad, I like your thoughts about blogging more. I try to check in as much as possible on the blog and/or talking directly with everyone. I am glad that we can use the blog as another way to know what's going on with each other. I appreciate everyone's updates and thoughts on various things. (But by the way- I don't think I heard from many family members regarding my topic on family...). I hope we can put things out there to talk about- there's no time like the present, right?
Well, those are my thoughts for the New Year. For the year, I hope for more connections with all of you and more talking (surprise!). I hope for everyone to find their zest each day.
Love, Kay
