more blog questions
Ellie - I wondered about your blog question about how do you know when someone has edited or made a comment on a specific topic? After I sent the message about the cut & paste shortcuts and had already sent it, Whitey said to me what's even easier is to right click your mouse! Duh! Had never thought about it. So I just went back to that email to see if he had posted that suggestion, and he had not but Dad and Larry had both made a comment (Larry making the most obvious suggestion of using the right click).
So besides the fact that the right click being the most efficient way to cut/paste my point is that if we can't tell when someone has edited/commented to a specific blog then we should just always make new comments. does that make sense to everyone?
And Dad I saw you comment about printing just a portion of your document by saving it to email. What you can do is highlight your text. Then go to Print under File. Then you can change your parameters to just print "Selection" instead of the entire document. Or just print '1 page' of a multipage document. Make sense.
Cheers everyone,
Love,
Max

Beads on Broadway
We have been very busy with "Beads on Broadway", a Mardi Gras production at church. Instead of a Christmas program, the director, my boss, wanted to try new types of music. It is a two night production on Feburary 4 and 5. Davis is part of a trio singing one verse of a song on Friday night. Yes, a big deal. Music will be from Sound of Music, Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera, Music Man. The choirs singing will be the Adult Choir, Advance Choir, Youth Choir (Davis), Teen and Lady Bell Choirs, Orchestra, and Contemporary Choir. We are in the parish hall--limited seating for 250. Hopefully, more in attendance than singing. They will be serving desserts and coffee.
It really is a fund raiser, but nobody is quite sure how many tickets on which night were sold. The great committee organization is falling apart. I am standing my ground and not allowing my boss to assign me more. I mainly keep track of the children's choirs. I work on parents to volunteer and get their kids to rehearsals.
Davis is excited. He loves the production stuff. I worry too much. Amazing, how these things all work out in the end.

When I enter my sign-on, I go directly to the listing of posts.
Where do I go to see the links Larry, Dad have set up?
How do I know when someone has edited a post. I can only see the original one listed.
I can't get spell check to work.?

keyboard shortcuts
Hey cool Luke! It's cool to have you check out our Blog page.
Happy Australia Day everyone.
Here's a short cut on the key board that I just learned about a
year ago.
For cut & pasting, instead of going up to the edit at the top. Just highlight what you want to copy, then Control and 'C'. Move cursor to where you want to copy the text to, and hit Control and 'V'.
Such as, when someone types in a web site on the blog page like Luke just did, or when Dad did a couple weeks ago. Instead of having to write it down and retype, this is a cool way to do it.
Cheers,
Max

Zombies
It looks like I've figured out how to put pictures on the blog [see below]. It wasn't to hard, downloaded the "Hello" program and it walked me through it. You all should try it. One caution though; Google is pushing thier new program "Picasa" so they redirect you to that site and you have to scroll down to the bottom to find the "Hello" link. Good luck and I'll play with it some.
No Kay, I didn't go to the Inaugral. I enjoy the specticals we have around here and try to make as many as possible - but sub-freezing temps really put me off.
Since I had the day off and it was butt-freezing cold, I went and rented some zombie movies: Shaun of the Dead and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Shaun of the Dead was hilarious; he's a everyman character who's going through life "like a zombie" with his girlfriend complaining that they spend every night at the pub with his crude flatmate Ed. Ironically, as the dead come back to life, he ends up at the pub (with Shaun's mum, his girlfriend, her granola friends, and of course, Ed) since it's the only place Ed can smoke other than their place but it's to much of mess for Shaun's mum and their flatmate Pete is all zomified (and obviously they can get a pint there). Since all zombie movies have the same basic hook, the addition of the comedy makes it an instant cult film. Warning: these folks all have very thick London accents.
Resident Evil: Apocalypes was really bad but it does have Milla Jovovich , who've I've been in love with since she was in The Fifth Element .

Happy Australia Day
I'm sure you all knew that the 26th is Australia Day. That is as big as the 4th of July. Just Wednesday will be a holiday. The fire works over the Swan River are great. This year we have some friends who are getting married that day. Then they are taking a small group of us out on a house boat on the river for the late afternoon and evening and see the fireworks. The groom is from Perth and interestingly, the girl is from Alabama and recently Atlanta. I think she likes having an American connection here. Should be a fun day. So have a Foster's for us, or better yet a nice white wine from Western Australia. Mmmmmm!
Well we now have a couple roommates. They have just moved in tonight. I work with Renata sort of, she is in a different division of IPA. We have become friends with her and her husband the last couple years mostly because of in-common things like diving, motorbikes (Andy & Whitey), and travel. They are building a house that won't be done until June and the house they were renting was sold from them. In stead of getting another rental they asked if there was any way they could rent a room from us for a couple months. After all the people that have help us out we couldn't say no. Of course the house is in its continuous mode of construction but have them here will help us in a lot of ways. It will be different but will be fun as well.
Whitey gets his red cast off on Tuesday - yeah! Freedom!!! He then gets a walking cast that he can take off when he sleeps. We have so much work to do on the house and he has work backing up from clients. Planning on being out of here just after Easter.
Well off to bed!
Love everyone,
Max

from Kay
Hi everyone-It's fun reading all of the posts. Dad- I don't think I'll be making the Hog's Head-ugh. That is very cool that you were at Truman's Inaugural Events. I'll make sure the girls read your post about it. So, Larry- did you attend last Thursday? I have been watching a replay of it this morning on CSPAN. It seems like a lot of big pagentry- probably at much expense- but it's nice for a day- to honor the traditions and watch the history. I find it interesting to watch how everyone handles the protocol, and etiquitte. Well, I completed a big project with my Learning Team and we gave our presentation on Thursday night. It went very well- the Professor was very impressed and many from the class commented how well we did. It was a fun project but this Counseling program is going to be time consuming! I have to keep strategizing on how to streamline the homework and not have it take over too much of my life. We took our ski/snowboard group up for a full day yesterday (no school). It was the most beautiful day- blue skies/sun/warm. The kids were beaming- and the adults had a great ski day as well. Megan got up early this morning for a swim meet- Duane went with her. I'm trying to get caught up on things here at home. Marisa slept past 9:00am. Love, Kay

Slacker
So I helped set this thing up and encouraged people to write on it and who is missing you ask... slacker boy, Larry. You should have expected that.
But I have an excuse - my dial-up internet at home is iffy on the good days so I have to post at work and it has been very busy at work. We have to get the '06 budget out in two weeks and I'm starting to regret accepting the "acting division chief" job. I'm still very busy so to accompany Dad's inaugural post I'll add the e-mail we got for planning this inauguration (I get it off):

Subject:
Inaugural Events
Date:
01/14/2005 01:14:38 PM
Presidential Inaugural events are scheduled throughout the city from January 18 through January 20, 2005.
On January 19, for employees duty-stationed at the HCHB there will be an early dismissal at 3:00 p.m. because of security issues related to the events on the Ellipse and its immediate traffic concerns (more information on early dismissal below).
· Vehicles parked on 15th Street must be moved by noon. Parking areas will be re-opened after 5 p.m. on January 20.
· Constitution Avenue between 15th and 17th Streets will be closed beginning at noon.
· 15th Street between Constitution and Pennsylvania Avenues will be closed to traffic beginning at 3:30 p.m. and all courtyard traffic must exit on the 14th Street side of HCHB.
· Daycare Center children will be picked up from the North Courtyard entrance.
· Metro will run on a normal, weekday schedule. Street closures for events on January 20 will begin at 7 p.m. on January 19.
The Secret Service has requested that curtains, blinds or shades for windows on the 15th Street side of the 7th, 5th, and 4th floors be closed beginning at noon.
On January 20, HCHB will be closed. Entry will be permitted only to those already approved by the Federal Protective Service. Additionally:
· Only vehicles with Inaugural identification will be allowed into the Inaugural secure area. This area is still being defined but it will include, at least, an area bounded by I Street, NW to the North, Independence Avenue to the South, 3rd Street, NE to the East and 23rd Street, NW, to the West.
· Smithsonian and Archives Metro Stations will be closed. All other metro stations will be open and running on a "special event" schedule.
Early Dismissal. The early dismissal does not apply to the following employees who will remain in their current status: 1) on LWOP pending disability; 2) in receipt of workers' compensation; 3) on military leave; 4) on suspension; or 5) in a nonpay status the hour immediately before they would have been excused from duty and the first hour of the workday after the early dismissal. Also, since employees must be present in a duty status to benefit from the early dismissal, employees on previously approved leave (e.g., annual leave, sick leave, compensatory time, credit hours, etc.) will remain in their current status and may not be granted administrative leave.
Before coming into the city to attend any Inaugural events open to the public, please check newspaper or local news websites for the locations of security checkpoints and the list of items prohibited in the secure area. If you bring any prohibited items, you will be turned away at the checkpoints.

the beach
Hi everyone:
Soooooo sorry to hear about the cold weather in Utah, Kay. (hee hee hee) We went to the beach yesterday morning. We get down there by 8 a.m. Whitey parks himself in a chair on the lawn above the beach since it is too difficult to get down to the beach with crutches. I go for a nice walk with head phones on. Then we both chill out and just read our books for a couple hours. If it gets too hot then we put out our umbrella or go under a tree. We rarely stay more than 2-3 hours. Just a nice relax. (bit different than skiing though, don't you think?) We do usually swim but will wait until the cast is off.
They are have a charity international cricket game played in Melbourne today and being broadcast in 152 countries around the world. The Melbourne Cricket Ground holds 86,000 people. Aparently brother, Gary, and Adrian are there. All proceeds will go to a tsunami relief fund (I think World Vision for this one). Top cricket players have come to it. One team is "Asia" and the other team is "the rest of the world". Asia includes players from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan & India. On the other team it is Australia, New Zealand, England, West Indies, South Africa. All are top players on their own teams and usually rivals. A mobile phone company is donating $1000 for each run made. Toyata is donating $50,000 for each 6 point run (that is not easy to do) and they are already up $350,000 at half tme. As much as I find cricket boring, it is a very 'international' sport and this just shows that.
Good luck with school, Kay. You can do it!!!!
Love you all,
Max

new email address
Hey everyone-we have a new email address. We're making the switch to Comcast. At least it's a trial period- but for all the effort it takes to switch- we'll probably just stick with it. Our new email address is DMMK96@comcast.net. Dad- we read the story in the Tribune this morning about the Judge newspaper journalists. Of course, Megan would like to write for the paper when she gets to Judge. Good story. We had our first Friday school ski/snowboard program this past Friday. We'll go up 4 more times total chaperoning 58 students. We have lots of support from other parents and it's fun. It was very, very cold this past Friday. High winds, cold temps- and some kids only had a thin shirt under a thin shell-type jacket! We think they learned the natural consequence of that. I started my 2nd Counseling graduate class. I'm in a panic again- not sure how I'm going to pull this off. There are not enough hours in a day for me to accomplish it all. It's scarey. I should be doing my homework now- and here I am blogging. Love, Kay

tornado
Arizona has been getting swamped the last week with lots and lots of rain and snow.
Last night, a tornado past about five miles north of us. It never touched down, but there was a watch for about an hour. Lots of hail, thunder and lightening. Lots and lots of water. The hail stayed under the bushes in the front yard and the boys thought we had snow!
I know we need the water, but this is too much in a short time period. We are supposed to have today off from rain, but expect more this weekend and next week. It is so cold!

Back to work
Well it is back to work for me this week. Monday was a public holiday at least so only a 4 day week. I actually like my job quite a bit so can't complain too much. I've moved BACK to the office that is closer to home which is where I was at the first 9 months with this company. The opportunity came up at the original office and I love it. Same job but I prefer the people in that office (I really had a problem with one of the persons at the other office). And at this office I can either bus to & from or walk home. I am trying to walk home at least 3 or 4 times each week which is a nice 30 minute walk. Whitey gave me a pedometer for Christmas so there's some exercise motivation.
Whitey is trying to stay busy at home. He is getting alot of computer things done and other stuff. And there is a local professional tennis competition on TV as well as a cricket test between Pakistan & Australia. I won't even get into the explanation of how a international test can last 3-5 days. Yawn! But it keeps Whitey entertained with his leg up. He gets the cast off on Friday and will get a walking cast then.
Heard from John & Briana Taylor and they were still in Northern Thailand until the 27th so missed the tsunami which we are very happy about. A girl I work with was on Phuket until the morning of the 26th with her husband. They were on a ferry taking them to Pi Pi Island where they were to stay for 7 more days. That's the island off Phuket that had major damage (didn't they all?). Anyway, they were on the ferry in the middle of the two so saw it all happen but only felt a large swell underneath. No one hurt on the boat but had to rescue alot of people in the ocean. She has just returned to work today.
Has anyone heard from Lynne and Charley? Are they able to get on this?
Take care,
Love,
Max

from George
Hello family. I am officially a student at Paridise Valley Community College (PVCC). I received my student ID today. I begin class Monday, January 24. I will attempt to succeed in completing Economics 111. It's a first step in furthering my education. Also, I'm told I receive a discount at the movie theater with my student ID, so at least I'll get something for going back to school. Wish me luck.

resolution
My new year's resolution is me. I am not bouncing back from the flu very quickly. It is really depressing. I'm not 20 and I need to focus on the long term good habits. I'm great at keeping up with children's checkups. George is even doing well. I need to make checkup appointments for me and focus on daily good health and exercise. I really think it will make everything else smother.
I also want to sew. I'm called an "at home mother", but I am rarely at home. I like to accomplish things at home. Volunteering is a never ending demand, but I can say no.
I need to make specific goals. When I worked in the corporate world, I was constantly goals and evaluations. I can do this for myself in my home arena. I don't need to skate through the to do list. I can struction what is most important. A little housekeeping wouldn't hurt.
So, my resolution is very selfish, but I will be more satisfied and better at the big picture with my family.

Meggie's New Year Extravaganza
Happy New Year everybody! I am very tired. We went to First Night last night, which was awesome. We saw my drum teacher play with his group some Latin music, and everybody in the crowd started dancing. That was my fav part. When we got home, it was like 10 minutes to midnight, and Marisa, me, and our friends Jane and Anne(we went to First Night with their family and they came with us to sleepover) went outside in the falling snow and threw confetti and shouted HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! We stayed up untill about 1.
On New Year's Day, we all slept in untill almost 10. Then we woke up, stuffed ourselves with pancakes, and ran outside in the new(almost melting) snow. We had snowball fights and built forts untill 2. Now I am sitting inside and writing this.
My New Year's Resoloutions are to go to swim practice 4 times a week and to see more of my friends and family. My hopes are that no more major disasters happen in 2005.
Hope you have a awesome 2005!
Love,
Meggie
